So many caps...

Been saving my caps for a long time...
Mostly to do an art project like a mosiac...
When I took them out today to sort them today, I just had
to take a picture of the ridiculousness of it all.
Enjoy.

Full Movie - Damnation Alley (1977)

In 1977 the movie Damnation alley (based on a book by Roger Zelazny) came to the theatures
It was adapted poorly from the novel... The author did not care much for it...
And it was also coincidentally not well received by the public.

Plot : In an post-apocalyptic world, a group of survivors travel
and find other settlements in huge custom designed all terrain vehicles.

Now this movie may not have much going for it...
It does have some fun action, bad special effects,
and of course the likely main inspiring factor for Rad Scorpions!
Also coincidentally it has Giant Cockroaches too...

Watch out for those Rad Scorpions Cru Jones!!!!
(Get it... Rad Scorpions?)

Alright, enough Bullshit... Here is a great B-Movie!

Be sure to check out some more info on this fun movie below.
And Next Month I will be sure to dig up another fun Full
Post Apoc Movie for all!

Paper Wasteland

Quite a while back I made these fun paper models of me and my friend...
I thought I would give them a nice share on here... Just Because.

Modeled them after some usual clothes we wear, then added some rips.
Then Added a bit of grime to our skin, etc.

And no wastelander would be complete without mohawks.... I mean guns...
I game my gal a nice vintage .45cal.
And myself, a humble dual Uzi.

Huge Post Apocalyptic Fiction List

I was browsing today to get a new book in the science-fictional
genre... guess which sub genre of this I was looking for...
Yes Post-Apocalyptic.

And I found this list of 408 Post Apoc Books!
Although I may not agree with the order they rank these books,
Its still a great point of reference for someone looking for a
new book for sure!

Post-Apocalyptic Fashion Guide

Found a pretty cool post on IGN with a
Post-Apocalyptic Fashion Guide...

It touches on some great movies, and great elements of
some of the classic standards of the wasteland set in those
films.

Albeit very brief, and not quite through, its definitely worth a read.
So check out the link and give it a read!

Mad Max Vehicle Shots

Some excellent set photos of Fury Road...
Showing some of the AWESOME new vehicles we will see in this movie...

Im still not sure what I have to think about the movie even happening in the first place... but it looks and sounds like it will be quite a thrill ride.

Quote : Peeks at the movie's other rides have shown at least one other car as big as a semi, several buggies, worn down hotrods and tractor-trailers.
A stuntman said the movie would have "130 cars and bikes and 198 stunts."
There are loads more pictures at the link below. Check em out!

Prepare to Survive! Communication

During the 2010 US Census it stated that 80.7 percent of the U.S.
population lived in urban areas!

When it comes down to it, most of us live in an urban environment,
So our conditions are going to be vastly different then those living
in the out-skirts of society...

Now it may be a good idea to brush up on your foraging skills, learn
to identify and find some wild mushrooms, (maybe pick up a field guide
to edible plants in your area, or even a book on improvised traps)
Let's face it, that is the likely place to go to survive, and during most
events that would cause an apocalyptic event would decimate a
great population in those dense cities that would likely be targets to
begin with.

But I digress, I am talking about some essential items that can help aid in your
survival in the Urban environment!

So Lets begin!

Communication & Power

You are going to want the ability to commicate with others...
And it will not be long till your cellphone is useless...
You will be able to trust people to an extent, but be warned to
not give note that you may have resources... the panic when it first begins
may make you want to keep a bit of your belongings secret.

However!

What if you are missing out on vital instructions being broadcast via radio,
and you have been knocked off the power grid... and whats more... you are
out of batteries...
Weill that's no good...

But they do make things like this :

Now I am not saying this is the best model, or even the best price you could find it for...
HOWEVER
It does have some of things you should look for.

Not only does this give you the ability to listen to Emergency Stations, but also the ability to communicate to others that may be smart enough to have bought emergency radios.

Also, the fact that you wont need to worry about powering this
thing.... as long as you have the ability to turn a crank...

They also make flashlights on the same lines.
and they are VERY affordable!
So cut out the need of batteries completely!

Which is great as a cost saver, even
in this non-apocalyptic life!

Tools for survival can be used in our everyday world as well...
Although on the subject of batteries... It could be an interesting idea to keep a solar powered battery charger around... It could be useful of a service to trade with your neighbors, and it is renewable.

Plus you may have some useful tools that require them.

Got some suggestions?
Id love to hear them in the comments of this article!

Russian Fallout

I found a pretty interesting video of what I am assuming is
a Russian Fallout LARP session...

Not the most amazing thing to watch, but I greatly appreciate
the costume design... and cant say that I wouldn't have a lot
of fun with a few air-soft guns shooting some raiders.

Ive heard a lot of talk about how much more serious fallout is over
yonder.... and from the scenery I have seen in some of the videos
I completely understand...

Speaking of amazing costume... Look at these people :

Damn... That is some Serious Costumes right there!
It almost makes me feel sane with the passion I still hold for
Fallout...

Movie Tralier : The Day

I had never heard of this movie, although after watching the preview... A Post Apocalyptic set for a horror/thriller. it looks like an interesting one... A Violent Gorey interesting one... The setting and costume design looks pretty snazzy as well :

Quote : "A group of five survivors, armed with shotguns, axes and machetes, wander the back roads of a ravaged landscape looking for refuge in The Day, a terrifying look into a post-apocalyptic future. As war ravages humanity, destroying civilization and most of life on earth, the survivors realize they must do whatever it takes to stay alive. Lost, starving, and exhausted, they seek shelter in a seemingly safe abandoned farmhouse. However, while searching for food and resources, they unwittingly set off a trap signaling to their ruthless predators lying in wait to begin their deadly attack. With food and ammunition dwindling, the group must make a desperate final stand--over a 24 hour period--battling for their ultimate survival."
A lot of VERY mixed reviews for this one... But when It comes out on DVD/BR etc... I may have to give it a rent... Looks like a nice thriller.

Best quote on youtube video : "So its a prequel on the house in the movie The Road?"

Salvaged Art Forms

From Mr Prvrt:
“This is my part of a group installation with the newly formed Rochester NY-based collective Sweet Meat Co.  What is pictured here is built entirely using salvaged objects, including the lighting and functional speakers. The entire installation took six people just over one month to complete. The work pictured here is my own, but more pictures from the show can be found here

Top 10 Post Apoc Movies

The Top Ten Apocalyptic Movie's List....
Lets see... this couldn't be toooooo bad... could it?

Oh God.... Here we go...
Please keep in mind...
NOT MY LIST!

10 - Shaun of the Dead
9 - The Matrix
8 - The Road
7 - Children of Men
6 - I am Legend
5 - The Book of Eli
4 - 28 Days Later
3 - 12 Monkeys
2 - Planet of the Apes
1 - The Terminator

Wait... Zombieland, Escape from New York, The Road Warrior ALMOST MADE THE TOP TEN!?!
You mean that TERRIBLE adaptation of Richard Mathesons I am legend (BTW Robert Neville was not actually a fan of Shreck, the book is great if you get a chance to read it)
But wait.... The Road Warrior.. ALMOST? This is by far one of the most Iconic Post Apocalyptic films EVER made! And it almost made the list? First of all Max is just far more solid of a protaganist than any of those movies possess, and the setting alone is by far what we think of when we think "post apoc". I hope someone lost their job over that...
Escape fom New York was not amazing... but god damn Snake Plisken would shoot that pussy Theo Farron in the fucking face and the god awful bore ride of children of men would be over in ten seconds... Dodge that Neo.
If Planet of the Apes was NOT the remake... I would agree... Great movie, original setting, legendary... But Marky Mark's shake down of that movie did NOT leave me with Good Vibrations...
I love the Ternimator... but come on!
Where is our beloved Max on this list....
Comment on what you think about this... please...

Gas Masks - We All Love Em

All the children had to wear a gas mask in case of a gas attack
by the Germans. They tried to make the masks like Mickey Mouse
faces so the children would like them. But I didn't.
They had big ears on them.
-Gerald Scarfe

Although used much more as a fashion statement in culture today,
going all the way through the hiphop scene, to the goth scene, and
many other groups in between -- The gas mask is a practical
invention that has been in use for just about a hundred years,
and are still used today... and will likely continue to be...
Gas masks were issued to all British civilians at the start of World War Two. There was a very real fear in Britain that Nazi German bombers would drop poison gas bombs. Therefore, all civilians were issued with gas masks. The bombing of Guernica in the Spanish Civil War had shown what could happen when bombers got through. The government had planned for tens of thousands of deaths in London alone. An advisor to the government - Liddell Hart - told the government to expect 250,000 deaths in the first week of the war alone.

A true testiment that when new obsticles come mans
way, we find a way to beat it, and "filter" it out of our life...
Air born weaponry was a problem in the great wars (namely
starting April 22, 1915) so we decided it was time to engineer...
We came up the humble gas mask.

Or not so much came up with, but rather improved upon
the apparatus that miners, fire fighters, and divers previously used.

The original filters even used carbon to get rid of the nauxious gasses...
And we still use this in modern air scrubbers in industrial settings
to this day!

Although Gas Masks work a bit different today...
Here is a great video telling you how they do!

The gas mask is truly mans best friend for filtering out pollutants
in the air, and making it safe to step out side in unsafe conditions...
No one wants to breathe in mustard gas and feel their lungs instantly
 start to swell, and blister.

And this little filtered guy changed all that.

Albeit quite an awesome piece of fashion...
I think the draw to it really is the history.
The fact that so much life can be supported, and allowed
just from strapping some rubber, and a filter on your face.

Boy she has got some great history, and I urge you
to read the links below!

Post Apoc Survival "Fashion"

Now as much as I love promoting the movie fashion of the post apocalyptic genre... That is simply because of an affinity I have for it, more than the fact that it is true to the nature of survival... and that is something I still want to keep relevent on this blog...

Survival is key in the Apocalypse. Plain and simple. And I have found a great blog entry from http://www.postapocalypticsurvival.com/ talking about the REALITY of that situation. Having a mo-hawk is great (and I have one myself) but believe me... if the weather is hot enough when everything goes down, I don't want hair in my face, and I am sure as shit not finding gel to spike it... I am finding scissors to lop it off... And I am NOT breaking out my football shoulder pads, and gearing up to fight in Thunderdome... I am making sure I have long johns, and my Carhart for the long winters.

Quote : This style comes primarily from post apocalyptic movies, but you can be damn sure retards will dress like this if they wake up and there is no government. Its like the chance of a lifetime for the goth kids from high school to fit in.
Too bad you still won’t be fitting in junior.
He makes a great point that acting like an anarchist, and looking like someone who once tried to bring down a soiciety, is not exactly the type of person you want in the after-math trying to rebuild it. I do agree with that one hundred percent.

Quote : If you were a walking billboard for your dislike of society and authority before the apocalypse, what the fuck am I supposed to expect from you after society has collapsed?

Also going into detail about the people sporting far too much tacticool, paintball, airsoft, surplus gear... Yes it is great, it is cool looking even to an extent... However it makes you look like you are a threat... Could you imagine you and your beloved friends/family are at your house, and you see 4-5 of these xbox live, paintball freaks walking onto your property? I would break out the old FNC 223, and start shooting... I mean I may do that in general to anyone on my property... but I would NOT fire a warning shot at these soldier-of-fortune looking mother fuckers...

Quote : If it is just one of them I might try to have a conversation, but if they are with their air-soft buddies or Xbox live friends, my wife and I are picking them off at 500 yards just to be safe. Who knows, they could be modding or have hacks and I am not taking any chances. You could be a higher level than me, and that is unacceptable.
He later goes in to the REALITY of what people will likely be wearing after a real societal collapse... And I have to agree with him very much...
Lets just say it is more like this man than anything :

I am not saying I am going to stop posting about leather and feathers... but I think this is something a great deal of people can benefit from reading. The long and the short of the apocalypse is about Survival... We as a society cant survive by playing simulators, and spray painting lacross gear and adding spikes to it...
However in the mean time... Its a fun hobby... Just remember it wont protect you, and it wont save your life!

Fury Road Interceptor at FTX Festival

Some interesting photos surfaced from MadMax4-movie.com and I felt like giving them a share.

Quote : This Mad Max Interceptor was recently on display at the French Toast and Hugs event in Swakopmund. Very likely to be a replica, although from a source on this vehicle has been to Namibia before. Note that this one is painted black, and looks much more like the car from the Road Warrior, compared to the Silver Interceptor for Fury Road seen previously.

I still dont know exactly what to think of Fury Road.... But if they keep showing us pictures of this bad ass silver Interceptor... I may start enjoy it before it even hits the screen.

Wasteland 2 Update #19

There is a new update on the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter, that is a huge update on progress indeed!
A giant behind-the-scenes update on how the game is coming along, and a nice 5 minute music piece at the end... Which I must say is sounding GREAT!

A fun fanmade morph of two of the portrait morphs...

Quote : An official update on the project is long overdue, so I'll try to make the most of this one.  We have been so focused on production that we have not communicated as much as some people would like. We will look to improve the frequency of our updates and have the dev team post on the forums about the specifics of our development. The good news is that things continue to move along rapidly and I am very pleased with the writing and level designs we have so far. The players were vocal in their desire for mature, violent and strange and that is what we will be serving.

Check the link below for the hefty update status on what looks to be an AWESOME game!

History And Review of Fallout - Part 1 & 2

I watched a very great piece showing the history of
Fallout, from Wasteland, to the creation of Fallout 1 & 2,
to the failed Van Buren Project -- All the way leading to
Bethesda's Massive Fallout 3.

This is a bit of an old review/video, but I just recently
found it again, and thought it was well worth a share...
It is well donw, factual, poignant, and serves a great
point of interest to my self, and Im sure other fans
of the fallout name-sake.

Give the videos a watch, and use the links below
to check out this awesome two part series!

Part 1 :

Media Consumes Me’s History and Review of the Fallout series, from it’s origins in the late 80’s to the popular Bethesda bonanza of today. This is Part 1 of 2 in a trip through the post apocalyptic wastelands. I had to suffer through a night of no sleep to complete this post, then go to work for 12 hours, eating only chocolate chip cookies, so I hope you enjoy!

Part 2 :

In Part 1, I talked about the origins of the Fallout series beginning with the inventive Wasteland by Electronic Arts.  I explored the heart of the series in Interplay’s Fallout 1 and 2, and talked a little about Fallout Tactics with it’s inclusion of real-time combat. I finished up without comment on the immature joke riddled console game Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. Now I continue the journey of the franchise in Media Consumes Me’s History and Review of the Fallout Series Part 2.

Shopping for Survial Literature

During my recent shopping on amazon, I decided to buy a few new survival books...
However I honestly was curious which books to get amongst the HUGE pile of them...

And I came across a great article

3 Types of Survival Books You Should Read and Why

There are a million and one survival books out there and they all claim to teach you how to become Jeremiah Johnson over night. It’s hard to figure out who to trust and what kind of survival books you should read. Here are 3 types of survival books you should read and why:

Junk - Post Apoc Card Game!

I found a pretty cool Kickstarter for a Post Apocalyptic Card/Dice game called Junk for 2-4 Players.

CONCEPT

Junk is a card and dice game for 2-4 players that takes 45-90 minutes to play: instead of building civilization like you might be used to in the genre, in Junk you are REbuilding using the junk from the world before. The players are leaders of a tribe that has survived an apocalypse and scavenge the wasteland for junk. These junk cards are drawn, traded, or stolen from other players to combine into pre-collapse technologies. The first tribe to restore civilization by achieving all 5 of these: the wonders of Sanitation, Preservation, Constitution, Radio, and Power Generation, wins. How will you choose to survive? By nurturing the wasteland ecology and harvesting its resources, founding a warrior culture to take what others have, restoring culture and quality of life, studying the science of what came before, or learning how it all fit together?

This game looks like a LOT of fun!
So back the kickstarter (help them reach their STRETCH goal)
I am proud to say that I am!

Fun Photo Article

Craft is Good for the Mentat Health

Mentats are fun... and by far one my favorite fictional drugs...
with the exception of maybe JET!

So I decided to try my hand at making me a cheap prop version...
After a few moments I found a decent fold-able design of it, and it was off to Kinkos

Here is how it looks when done :

So after a quick print out on some nice heavy card-stock,
I folded out the design and it came out looking GREAT!
Weirdly has an odd flap in the back, kind of like an orbitz gum package.

Id like to mess around with this, and use it as a template for my own designs..
although beyond that (and I am reaching) to make a nice tin one
similar to this : Tin Mentats
