Prepare to Survive! Communication

During the 2010 US Census it stated that 80.7 percent of the U.S.
population lived in urban areas!

When it comes down to it, most of us live in an urban environment,
So our conditions are going to be vastly different then those living
in the out-skirts of society...

Now it may be a good idea to brush up on your foraging skills, learn
to identify and find some wild mushrooms, (maybe pick up a field guide
to edible plants in your area, or even a book on improvised traps)
Let's face it, that is the likely place to go to survive, and during most
events that would cause an apocalyptic event would decimate a
great population in those dense cities that would likely be targets to
begin with.

But I digress, I am talking about some essential items that can help aid in your
survival in the Urban environment!

So Lets begin!

Communication & Power

You are going to want the ability to commicate with others...
And it will not be long till your cellphone is useless...
You will be able to trust people to an extent, but be warned to
not give note that you may have resources... the panic when it first begins
may make you want to keep a bit of your belongings secret.

However!

What if you are missing out on vital instructions being broadcast via radio,
and you have been knocked off the power grid... and whats more... you are
out of batteries...
Weill that's no good...

But they do make things like this :

Now I am not saying this is the best model, or even the best price you could find it for...
HOWEVER
It does have some of things you should look for.

Not only does this give you the ability to listen to Emergency Stations, but also the ability to communicate to others that may be smart enough to have bought emergency radios.

Also, the fact that you wont need to worry about powering this
thing.... as long as you have the ability to turn a crank...

They also make flashlights on the same lines.
and they are VERY affordable!
So cut out the need of batteries completely!

Which is great as a cost saver, even
in this non-apocalyptic life!

Tools for survival can be used in our everyday world as well...
Although on the subject of batteries... It could be an interesting idea to keep a solar powered battery charger around... It could be useful of a service to trade with your neighbors, and it is renewable.

Plus you may have some useful tools that require them.

Got some suggestions?
Id love to hear them in the comments of this article!
